(7/2/10) — Webster Bank has donated $5,000 to the Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross to support families in the greater Bridgeport, Conn., area who were affected by the tornado and wind storms that swept through the region on June 24.
The donation will help the Red Cross supply food, shelter and basic services to victims of the storm.
An F1-scale tornado briefly touched down in Bridgeport, knocking out windows, uprooting trees, and ripping signs and awnings off buildings with winds at an estimated 100 mph. The Red Cross estimated that nearly 250 homes also were damaged or destroyed in Bridgeport and nearby Stratford, and Fairfield.
"We are pleased to support this effort on behalf of the community we serve especially during this challenging time. We are equally supportive of the mission of the Red Cross and all they do during times of crises," said Nancy Scirocco, government and institutional banking relationship manager with Webster.
