(3/25/10) — Webster was a major sponsor of the four Heroes Celebrations in March hosted by the Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross, events that recognized members of local communities whose actions epitomize the mission of the Red Cross by helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
"Webster has been a longtime partner of the American Red Cross because, like the Heroes being honored in March, the Red Cross lends a helping hand when it's needed most," said Joseph Savage, executive vice president, commercial banking at Webster. "Webster is proud to have sponsored these events as part of our ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities we serve and we salute those honored for their selflessness."
In addition to sponsoring the events on March 4, 11, 19 and 25, Webster bankers helped select the winners honored at each breakfast and Webster's regional presidents were among those who handed out the awards.
Heroes were selected from community nominations and were recognized in one of 10 categories: firefighter; law enforcement (including 911 operators); military; water safety; medical professionals; animal rescue; Good Samaritan (adult); Good Samaritan (youth); community impact; Spirit of the Red Cross (impact locally, nationally and internationally).
