(9/17/11) — Webster Bank sponsored the second annual CT FIRST University Day today at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Conn., an event that was designed to further the goal of CT FIRST, to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) was founded in 1989 and has been active in Connecticut since 1995. It is a not-for-profit organization that designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
University Day gave students and adults an opportunity to network and participate in workshops designed around existing FIRST programs, including Junior FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition. Webster’s Regional President for Greater New Haven Jeff Klaus gave opening remarks at the event and Mary McConnell, a training instructor in Webster’s Organizational Effectiveness Unit, was a workshop presenter.
